Las Animas County Republican Central Committee Chairman D. Lee Phelan, SR, responds to the January 1, 2024, Trinidad Chronicle News articles involving the Colorado Republican Candidates.

CHAIRMAN'S RESPONSE:

Southern Colorado, particularly here in Las Animas County, is a family-based community. Religiously committed, agriculturally sound, abundantly enriched in cultural influences with activities and lifestyles brought to it by the Santa Fe Trail – and now the modern Interstate 25 corridor and Amtrak Railways.

However, it's been negatively impacted over the generations by false political hopes and promises that have consistently worked against it. Overbearing government regulations have led to the closing of its mining. It now suffers a dwindling population and the closure of schools. And to make matters worse, it's being destroyed by needless Ag-Tourism and outrageous property tax levels – and our ranches stand to be invaded by State-mandated releases of wolves. 

Seemingly, the predators devouring our community are no longer restricted to filling the state capital hallways or the current Governor's mansion.

Here in Las Animas County, the people solely wish to live out their lives under the protections of our unmolested Constitution. The fun-loving, cowboy-enriched, rancher-endorsed lifestyle where GOD and Country have been the essential love and has the fundamental respect of family, friends, and community within it.

Where one's word is an unbreakable bond, and a simple handshake is a solid commitment.

Where a political process involves a PRIMARY designed to evaluate the best candidates. Where the people select candidates willing to protect one's life, liberty, and the everyday pursuit of happiness. 

Ensuring everyone's God-given rights and liberties are sustained .. now and for future generations.

In that spirit, the Las Animas County Republicans support every potential candidate's effort in the Primary process. 

No matter where they apply – if they do so legally and respectfully. 

The critical selection left to the Caucus and elections to select this prime candidate is a fundamental Republican mainstay. Never allow the anointment of any candidate. Once a candidate is chosen, the Las Animas County Republicans stand firmly and solidly behind the people's selection in a fair and transparent election process.

It's oblivious this differs from the Democrat Party and the wishes of its liberal media mouthpieces.

It's expected there will be a lot of distraction by outside influencers wanting to taint this basic of election processes. 

For which, REPUBLICANS here in Las Animas County say - once again - ENOUGH. 

Let the process play out. Let the will of the people be done.

And quite frankly, any outside influencers can be damned.
